Google Gemini’s Picture Me. Much better than you can imagine

Nano Banana Me

We needed something like this: Picture Me. Google is back at it again — and this time, it’s making photo transformations ridiculously fun, wildly creative, and 100% prompt-free.

Picture Me, the newest AI-powered feature built on top of Gemini (a.k.a. Google’s ultra-capable AI model), lets you upload a single photo and reimagine yourself in dozens of ways. Whether you want to channel 1980s mall-core, try out a new haircut before actually committing, or turn yourself into a pocket-sized collectible, you can do it in seconds — no editing experience or AI know-how required.

And the best part? You don’t have to write a single prompt because all the options are configured and available to you as soon as you open the application.

In this sense, those responsible for the Gemini project must be congratulated, because they have thought about making this application usable by absolutely everyone, without exception, even those who know nothing about AI or image editing.

Let’s see what Picture Me is and how it works.

What Exactly Is Picture Me?

Picture Me is an experimental feature powered by Gemini 2.5 Flash, Google’s fast, image-savvy AI model. It lives inside Canvas, Google Gemini creative playground for testing the boundaries of what AI can do with images, layouts, and user interaction.

But unlike most AI art tools that require prompts, to get everything Picture Me has to offer, all you need is a photo. A close-up or medium shot, which you can upload to the app or even generate directly with your computer’s webcam.

For the examples I am going to share here, I will use the image you see below.

The first thing we will do is access Gemini’s Canvas here: goo.gle/3JMinYM

Next, we will see this main panel, with the space to upload our image on the left and the main options offered by the application on the right, grouped by thematic settings.

So we will upload our photo and select the template that interests us most: TIME TRAVELER, showing what your style would be like (clothing and hairstyle from the 1950s to the 2000s), STYLE LOOKBOOK, like a personal fashion photo shoot, ’80 MALL SHOOT, with a totally tubular 1980s portraits, MINIATURE ME generate your own collectible figurines, HAIR STYLER show off your look with different hairstyles and hair colours, IMPOSSIBLE PICS surprises you with images that defy reality, PRO HEADSHOTS gives you a photo shoot with images for your professional profile.

Templates range from practical to purely playful. And that’s where it gets interesting.

The Picture Me Templates Are Genius

Each PictureMe theme is like a little self-contained app for visual experimentation. Some highlights include:

  • 🕰️ Time Traveler – See yourself styled as if you lived in different decades. Hello 1920s flapper version of you.
  • 📼 ‘80s Mall Shoot – Big hair. Acid-wash jeans. Soft-focus backgrounds. It’s pure nostalgia.
  • 🧍‍♀️ Miniature Me – Ever wanted to be an action figure? Now you can.
  • 💇 Hair Styler – Test hairstyles and hair colors without the commitment (or the tears).
  • 👜 Style Lookbook – Try editorial fashion looks worthy of a Vogue cover.
  • 🚀 Impossible Pics – Bending reality? Easy. These look like dream sequences from a sci-fi film.
  • 👔 Pro Headshots – Yep, there’s even a boring-but-useful option for your LinkedIn profile.

Each theme gives you a full spread of AI-generated photos, often showing different lighting, angles, and styling interpretations — all based on your original image. After selecting the mode and theme you are interested in, simply press the beautiful orange button labelled GENERATE PHOTOS.

Here I have selected the ‘IMPOSSIBLE PICS’ template, and in the generated images you will always see these six elements: With Lincoln, Alien & Bubbles, Room of Puppies, Singing Puppets, Giant Chicken Tender, and Yeti Photobomb.

example of the album generated with the ‘Impossible Pics’ option, containing 6 images.

At the end of the gallery of generated images, there is a button that allows you to download all 6 images in a single PNG file, which is about 10 MB in size. You also have the option to download the images individually, with a file size of 1.5 MB, with dimensions of 800×1400 if you download them in 9:16 format and 900×1100 in 1×1 format. These dimensions depend on the image you use as the original photo, but I have done several tests and there are no significant changes.

Each image has a vertical menu that offers you the option to download that image in 1×1 or 9:16 format, or to regenerate it if you do not like the result.

What Makes Picture Me Different From Other AI Photo Tools?

Most AI image generators are either too technical (hello, prompt engineering) or too generic (you end up looking like a melted Pixar character). Picture Me strikes a rare balance: it’s creative but controlled, fun but useful, fast but high-quality.

Plus, it’s all built on Gemini, which understands visual context and detail far better than most other consumer AI tools right now.

And since it’s running on Google infrastructure, it’s fast. You get results in seconds — not minutes.

Headshots Like a Pro

Customize Headshot, Facial Expression and Pose

In this example, I select Friendly Smile and Slight Angle, and this is the result:

And now, I change the original portrait to a medium shot of my body, instead of a close-up, and Facing Forward with Confident Look.

Why You Should Actually Try This

  • Want to freshen up your headshot? Done.
  • Planning a social post that gets actual engagement? Try the ‘80s template.
  • Need a weird birthday gift? Miniature Me to the rescue.
  • Just bored on a Tuesday? Generate yourself into 6 different decades and call it time travel therapy.

Also: no sign-up hoops. No credit card forms. It’s free and open via Gemini Canvas. Here’s the link to try it: goo.gle/3JMinYM

It’s For You, Even If You’re Not a Tech Nerd

Google’s Picture Me is more than a gimmick — it’s a glimpse into the future of personal creativity, where AI becomes your stylist, photographer, and digital twin generator all at once.

If you’ve ever wanted pro-level portraits, silly internet-ready edits, or just a new way to express yourself visually, this is the easiest — and most fun — way to start.

But there are no miracles in AI. If you are really looking for original and unique results, this is not the app you need. Picture Me seamlessly adapts your face to the final result, but it does so within parameters that cannot be configured. Let’s say that my creative freedom is limited by the app, which I cannot ask to do anything that is not pre-configured in the template I select.

In any case, we are talking about an excellent application that offers interesting results with very fast delivery times and no annoying errors.

Try it, save your favorites, and tag your friends. And hey, let us know in the comments: which version of you came out best?
